Dumfries was an important town in the South West of Scotland and there were several makers that have been identified. These makers tended to use different marks, among them, the fouled anchor, Stag's head, ruined castle (in the case of Adam Burgess) and Unicorn. Sugar tongs from Dumfries makers are quite rare.
