These tongs are plain with a shell bowl and concave arms, very much as you would expect to find with Scottish tongs. They are marked with both the oak tree and the anchor and the script form of John Heron's mark. He is reported to have been working between 1811 & 1831. There is also a Greenock mark of "HERON" which is believed to be John Heron and another mark registered in Glasgow "J HERON". I would date these tongs at c1820
