Antique Georgian silver sugar tongs

David Crawford is another rare maker for sugar tongs.  He entered his first punch on 6th May 1768 and was known to have sent work for assaying up to at least 1784.  He died in 1825.  This pair of tongs is a lovely pair of flared bright cut tongs with a deep cut leaf pattern engraved in the bowls.  Unusually for Newcastle tongs, they are marked in the bowls.  They are just 5 inches long and have a concave bow.  From the quality of the engraving, these tongs are equally as well made as any London work of the time.  They are dated at c1780.
