These tongs are of a fairly standard bright cut style but with an unusual diagonal pattern and lovely deep cut leaf pattern engraved bowls.  These tongs are also blessed with a fascinating armorial crest.  (Danger - I may have photographed it upside down!).  Notice that the maker's mark on these tongs has a pellet between the 2 letters, i.e. is different to the other "WC" maker's marks.  Again another illustration of how difficult it can be to attribute tongs to a particular maker.  These tongs may well have been made by someone entirely different to the other "WC" makers on this web-site.  In fact it could well be that these tongs are by William Catell.  The tongs are dated c1780 - 1784.
