| George Elder was a maker identified in Jackson's as "a
prolific worker". These Antique Georgian silver sugar tongs are
fascinating in that they have a very clear Edinburgh hallmark for 1804 but Jackson's suggests that George Elder was active from 1819 to 1843 - and from
Banff. The style of the tongs certainly suggests a later date than
1804, more like about 1820. Banff is more likely to have been linked
with Aberdeen than Edinburgh. Click on any picture to enlarge |
