These are a lovely pair of sugar tongs. They are of absolutely typical Scottish style, being concave fiddle pattern and with the circular shell type bowls. They have a light bright cut engraved feather edge with a pattern to the top of the arms. It is quite unusual to see bright cut engraving on this style of tongs. This pair of tongs is marked with the three castles, duty mark and maker’s mark, again with the maker’s mark on one arm and the hallmarks on the other, being the castle rather than the thistle. They are dated c1790.
