Matthew Craw registered a mark in 1805, but Jackson records work of his dated 1802. His mark was in an oval punch. Jackson also records a mark of Mc. in a rectangular punch and tentatively attributes it to James McKenzie. The maker’s mark on these tongs is very clearly Mc. but the punch is an oval one. These tongs could therefore be by either maker. They are of an unusual style for Scottish tongs, being completely flat with no concave element at all, and completely plain. They are dated c1805.
