These are a pair of flared and bright cut engraved tongs with an elaborate monogram. These tongs have a star for a journeyman's mark. It is quite noticeable that many of George Ferris's tongs have a journeyman's mark, (several different ones). This suggests to me that he left the work of making sugar tongs to his apprentices. The tongs are dated 1814/15.
