These are a fairly crudely engraved pair of bright cut tongs. The tongs are dated 1816/17 and the maker's mark has a journeyman's mark of a chevron beside it. It is quite noticeable that many of George Ferris's tongs have a journeyman's mark, (several different ones). This suggests to me that he left the work of making sugar tongs to his apprentices.
