| William Woodman was a Bristol maker. In common with
many West Country makers, his silver was hall-marked at Exeter. He is
recorded in Jackson's as dating between 1818 and 1838. These are a
very ordinary pair of Georgian silver sugar tongs, only made special by the maker, which is a rare
maker for sugar tongs. They are dated at 1821. They have another
interesting feature and that is the monogram. Notice how the new
monogram has been engraved without any attempt being made to remove the old
one. Click on any picture to enlarge |
