These tongs are of a plain style with just a thread edge and light bright cut engraved pattern, extending around circular bowls. The Lion Passant is very worn but still distinguishable. The maker's mark is also worn and so we cannot be absolutely certain it is "IC". In fact it could well be "TC" for Thomas Chawner and the style of the togs is similar to his work. I have dated these tongs as c1780 - 1784
