This is a lovely pair of bright cut tongs. They are unusual, just because of the size of them. They are 6.¼ inches long and weigh 52.5 grams. This is a huge size for tongs of this date. The engraving is very fine and in fact appears as if it has been machine engraved, rather than by hand. Again this is unusual as machine engraving is not normally seen much before about 1810. They are dated 1801/02.
