| Philip Batchelor was a London maker. Grimwade
records him as having entered a mark as a small-worker on 15th January 1770.
These silver sugar tongs are quite hard to identify, however, on balance I think they are
Philip Batchelor. I had thought they may be Patrick Beatch, but the
Lion Passant looks much like a London mark than a Newcastle one. The
only two pairs of antique Georgian silver sugar tongs I have seen by this maker are both cast. Click on a picture to see more detail |
