I have dated these tongs at around 1775.  They are slightly unusual in that the arms are "solid", i.e. have no pierced parts.  They have a very interesting "2 dots" on the inside of one arm.  Is this where a sample has been taken, perhaps for assaying?  Other than this, they are perfect.
