These are a pair of early feather edge tongs. The edge is serated when it is felt. They have circular bowls with heavily engraved curving lines. Note that these tongs are NOT bright cut. They have a wonderful monogram of a goose.

The other interesting point about these tongs is that they are marked with the maker's mark twice and no Lion Passant.  Thomas & William Chawner will not have paid duty, or the hallmarking fees on these tongs. In legal terms, these tongs cannot legally be sold as solid silver. Notice that this maker's mark is in a "quatrefoil".
