Thomas Pratt & Arthur Humphreys entered their mark as plate-workers on 7th July 1780. It is interesting to see silver sugar tongs by these makers as there is no record of them having been spoon-makers or small-workers. These tongs are flared, shaped bright cut sugar tongs, dated c1784. The style and pattern of these sugar tongs is interesting, being unique, although with some similarities to much later Bateman silver sugar tongs and some similarities with early provincial bright cut sugar tongs. The hallmarks are in the bowls.
