This pair of tongs is dated c1780 - 1784. The hallmark and maker's marks are in the bowls as appears to be the case with all of these William Burch tongs made prior to 1784. The maker's mark has been struck several times (at least 3). They are slightly smaller and more delicate than average, but their most interesting feature is the monogram. Were these made for the “Sealed Knot”?
