Antique Georgian silver sugar tongs

William Playfair’s mark was entered on 16th May 1782 as a spoon-maker, in partnership with William Wilson.  There are no other marks recorded for either of the two, although there is a buckle-maker’s mark recorded by William Wilson in 1784.  This may be a different William Wilson.  These are plain tongs, with a thread edge, dated c1782.  They are only marked with the Lion Passant and maker’s mark, which dates them prior to 1st December 1784.  Tongs by these makers are quite rare.
