The firm of Hampston & Prince was first established in 1770.  They worked together until 1799.  There are several marks registered for this partnership.  They were joined by George & Robert Cattle early in 1796 but a new maker's mark was not immediately introduced.  This particular pair of tongs are cast, which is a rarity in itself.  The tongs are dated prior to 1784, probably c1780.
