Richard Crossley & George Smith IV registered their first mark together on 9th April 1807 as spoon-makers. Richard Crossley then entered another mark on his own on 2nd January 1812 and George Smith did so on 20th January of that same year. They were therefore working together for just less than five years. Tongs by this partnership are very plain. This is in keeping with the style of the times. This pair of tongs has a thread edge which is unusual for them. The tongs are also unusual in that they are dated 1806/07, which means they must have been made between 9th April and 29th May 1807.
